It is never a good idea to compress your mattress.
When shipping a mattress, you do not need to compress it. It can be placed in a mattress bag (zippable with handles).
Your mattress can be damaged if you compress it. Especially innerspring mattresses. Don't compress it for more than a few hours.
Allow a pickup company (preferably the same mattress brand delivering your new mattress) to pick up a bad mattress.
You probably need a new mattress if your compressed mattress is damaged.
The Saatva Classic is the best replacement you can find. Extremely sturdy and comfortable. Features incredibly friendly policies and a generous 365-night trial.
Can Compression Damage My Mattress?
You can compress your mattress only for a short time.
Compressing your mattress for more than 2 weeks may cause material damage.
All-foam mattresses, like polyfoam or latex, can be compressed briefly.
If you have an innerspring or hybrid mattress, we don't recommend compression because it may damage the coils and reduce quality.
Compressing a new mattress will void its warranty.
If you must compress your mattress, follow these steps:
1. Prepare the mattress: Take off all bedding except the mattress protector.
2. Cover the mattress: Put the mattress in the plastic bag and zip it up. Use duct tape to reinforce the seal.
3. Install the valve: Make a hole in the mattress bag large enough to fit the vacuum bag valve.
4. Take the air out: Lie your mattress flat on the floor. Using your vacuum hose, flatten the mattress.
5. Roll up the mattress: As you roll up the mattress, any remaining air will be sucked up by the vacuum cleaner.
6. Tie it: To prevent damage, secure it with straps and keep it horizontal.
Note: Avoid compressing your mattress if possible!
Should I Compress My Mattress?
No. The first compression of a mattress occurs after it leaves the factory.
Recompressing it after use is not a good idea.
Innerspring mattresses are especially susceptible to this. Don't do it!
You risk damaging internal components (among other drawbacks).
Compressing a mattress is not necessary if you are moving it. Buy a mattress bag (with handles).
