Memory foam mattresses cannot be completely cleaned of cat urine stains.

The best solution is to buy a new mattress. Saving money shouldn't come at the expense of your health.

If you insist on removing urine from your pillow top mattress (which we don't recommend), follow these 3 guidelines:

1. Replace any impacted foam (or materials) with the same density. You can ask the manufacturer for the same dimensions you plan to cut
2. Below is our step-by-step guide to using an enzyme cleaner if cutting out the foam doesn't work.
3. With memory foam, the probability of successfully removing urine is even lower than with pillow tops and coils.

Will Cat Urine Permanently Damage My Memory Foam Mattress?

Most likely. Cat urine may permanently damage your foam mattress.

Because a 100% foam mattress is so absorbent, everything that can remove urine smells will also absorb into the mattress.

If it's just a small amount right on top, you might be able to clean it, but anything else won't dry. Your mattress might feel dry at first, but after a while you will smell it.

Inhaling mould spores (that formed from the urine residue) will trigger asthma attacks.

5 Step Method To Get Cat Urine Out Of Your Memory Foam Mattress

Here's a 5 step method to get cat urine out of your foam mattress:

1. Use an enzyme cleaner. You can find it at your local pet store or on Amazon.
2. Open your windows and turn on your fan. It is important to have good airflow.
3. Apply the entire enzyme cleaner to the entire affected area and inside it as well. Make sure you use twice as much as you think you need.
4. The solution will only work partially at most if you soak your foam in every area affected by urine.
5. Let your mattress air-out for 12-24 hours, then soak any damp areas with enzyme cleaner.

It is still likely that your foam mattress will need to be replaced soon. Cleaning won't remove the odor.

Our favorite mattress is the Saatva Classic.

The memory foam mattress, like the Loom and Leaf, has foams sewn into the top cover (which helps prevent future problems since they are built into the mattress and protected by a waterproof mattress protector), so if you choose a non-foam mattress in the future, any damage will be only surface level.

How To Prevent Future Stains & Odors From My Cat Urine On Your Foam Mattress?

Your mattress should be pet-free.

A water- and urine-resistant mattress protector is also recommended.

A great investment under $30. It is completely waterproof!

Does A Memory Foam Mattress Absorb Cat Pee?

Yes. Fibers absorb it completely, so it's virtually impossible to remove it. You should replace your mattress as soon as possible. If you don't, you'll have serious odor problems. Micro bugs can smell odors even if you cannot. Don't take the risk.

What Type Of New Mattress Is Best For Lower Back Pain?

It depends on your preferences. Lower back pain doesn't have a superior or worst type.

• Innerspring mattresses provide natural airflow, bounce, and motion transfer.
• Memory foam is ideal if you don't like motion transfer, don't sleep hot, and don't sleep hot.
• Latex relieves pressure points and improves blood flow. Generally, this type of mattress sleeps cool (between spring and foam in terms of heat), but it is more expensive.

Some people can't adapt to either of the 3 mattress types. You must understand how each mattress type responds to your body. If you don't identify your mattress 'type' preference quickly, you'll sleep on a less-than-ideal one.

People prefer innerspring hybrids (such as the Saatva Classic). Having excellent build quality, comfort, and affordability (for a luxury hotel-style mattress), it appeals to a wide audience.

Consider coil gauge (i.e. thickness) if you're considering an innerspring hybrid. The density of memory foam (measured in ILDs) is also critical. Depending on your body and sleep position, density determines how much support you need.
