Dry cleaning a mattress usually means 'deep cleaning' it. Deep cleaning is important if you have a serious stain that's difficult to remove. When dry cleaning a mattress, you should be very careful, so here are some tips on proper care and dry cleaning:

• You can't deep clean a mattress as the solution or water will soak into the thickness of the mattress.
• You can vacuum your mattress to remove dead skin cells, dust mite excrement, and dust mites. You can then add a dry-cleaning solution to break down body oils and sweat. Baking soda, vinegar, hydrogen peroxide, or liquid soap can be used as homemade cleaning solutions.
• You can also spot clean to the best of your ability and use baking soda (and vinegar) for smells and disinfecting spray + hydrogen peroxide for other cleaning options.
• After cleaning, you can spray some antibacterial Febreeze or carpet cleaner and vacuum to help with musty/off smells
• Get a waterproof mattress protector to keep out sweat, dirt, grime, hair, bacteria, spills, etc
• Add cleaning your mattress to part of your maintenance routine (once per week) and use a fabric softener to break down softener buildup.
• If you have a serious stain from urine, blood, vomit, or poop - you must replace the mattress. Impossible to fully clean (both stain and odor).
• Buy a new mattress instead. The Saatva Classic is a fantastic replacement. It's our #1 mattress pick currently available.

How Can I Dry Clean My Mattress?

The step-by-step process to dry clean your mattress is quite simple:

1. Vacuum your mattress to remove dead skin cells, dust mite excrement, and dust mites.
2. Create a simple dry-cleaning solution to break down body oils and sweat. Use baking soda, vinegar, hydrogen peroxide, or liquid soap.
3. Add baking soda to your mattress and scrub it in with a bristle brush. Let it sit for 2-3 hours.
4. Vacuum all the baking soda off your mattress.
5. Use vinegar and liquid soap for any small spot stain cleaning.
6. Use hydrogen peroxide if you have a blood stain. Lightly dab peroxide on the blood stain, then scrub it with a toothbrush until it's gone (it works surprisingly well).
7. Use an enzyme cleaner (can find at most pet stores) to soak any urine stains (pet or human) for several hours. Use it liberally. Then dab a clean paper towel to soak everything.

Note: Make sure to wash your sheets every 2-4 days. Major bedding every 1-2 weeks. Dry/deep clean every 30-60 days.
