Bed bugs are a growing problem across the US. A recent survey found that over 90% of pest control professionals have treated for bed bugs in the last year. Many are turning to bed bug sprays as a solution, but does it instantly kill bed bugs?
The answer is complicated. Some insecticide sprays contain pyrethrin compounds that can repel or kill bed bugs. However, complete eradication may require several treatments or replacing the infested mattress.
When using chemical-based insecticides for treating for bed bugs, it's important to use extreme caution as some chemicals can be toxic and cause health risks if inhaled or absorbed into the skin. Professional pest control services should be employed when severe infestations occur; they will usually use a combination of treatments like heat and essential oils to ensure complete eradication.
Replacing an infested mattress is another option - either by buying an encasement cover or getting a new mattress altogether. Doing so will help prevent future invasions and make your home safer. Just spraying won't guarantee instant extermination- further measures may be necessary to eliminate all traces of these pests.
What Spray Kills Bed Bugs Instantly
A recent survey conducted by the National Pest Management Association found that over 90% of pest control professionals in the US have treated for bed bugs in the past year. This indicates an alarming rise in their prevalence.
Pyrethrin-based aerosol sprays are often used to kill bed bugs instantly, although it usually takes more than one application. Insecticide sprays containing chemicals such as permethrin and deltamethrin can also be used to instantly eliminate exposed bed bugs, but may take longer to have an effect on hidden insects.
Using a dryer or other heat source that reaches temperatures exceeding 120°F (49°C) is another possibility - this method may instantly kill all stages of bed bug infestation, including eggs. Essential oils such as peppermint, lemongrass, cinnamon and lavender oil can also be used to quickly kill bed bug adults and larvae.
It should be noted that these methods do not always provide complete eradication of a bed bug infestation. A combination of treatment methods might be necessary for successful elimination of these pests. Additionally, these treatments may reduce the number of existing bugs temporarily but will not guard against future invasions. Therefore, replacing an infested mattress may be an effective way to completely get rid of any existing bed bugs and help protect against future infestations.
